“Fashion is made to become unfashionable.”
– Coco Chanel
Coco Chanel was the legendary orphanage-raised French fashion designer who founded the iconic Chanel brand. She is credited with freeing women from the constraints of staid fashion. Coco understood that fashion is, and always will be, a fluid concept. By its very nature, what’s “in” today will be “out” tomorrow. The same goes for the workplace, whatever type of work you do. As just one example, advertising ad time used to be sold by salespeople; then came digital ad sales, using fewer people and more software; increasingly, there are fewer ad “sales” and more automated “matches” made by means of algorithms, designed and overseen by artificial intelligence. In this fast-changing world, you cannot become complacent. Rather, make continual adaptation a personal habit. What is “in” today will, by its nature, surely be “out” tomorrow, regardless of your industry, field or profession.
