Sklover’s Thoughts for the Work Week

“It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.”

– Chinese Proverb

Oh, sure, this saying is quite common and often considered trite. But, too, it is important to keep in mind in these difficult times. Take a positive step instead of being angry at those who take negative ones. Engage in an act of kindness instead of being angry at those who hate. Do what’s right instead of being upset at those who do what is wrong. It’s good for your own soul, and good for others’ souls, as well. At home, away, and at work. Try it at work for a week: one “good deed” a day. That is really what can improve things, and lift the darkness around us. Being a light in the dark is a big part of our motivation for our efforts.

This quote was the theme of a recent ecumenical conference I attended that helped people see the good in each other, not the bad, and to recognize that we all are capable of both good and bad.

If you would like to contribute a saying, proverb or quote, we’d love to receive it and share it with our Blog Family. To do so, just send it to “The Boss,”
