Sklover’s Thought for the Work Week

Sklover’s Thought for the Work Week

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”

– Alice Walker

Without question, “perceived powerlessness” is the number one issue I most often need to address with my clients when they face problems and opportunities at work. The incidence and depth of fear of standing up for oneself at work has risen significantly in recent years. I urge each of my clients to bear in mind that the leverage they need to negotiate for themselves is based squarely in the “perception of value” they give rise to each day in their solid skillset, unique abilities, industry relations, hard work, and positive approach. Even in difficult times, your leverage is almost always greater than you think. When faced with a problem or opportunity at work, successful negotiation is simply a matter of wise use of the leverage you have from the value you portray. It’s there for you to use to your advantage, or to lose to your disadvantage, whichever you decide.

So, go forward . . . make your job, your career and your life the best they can be. You and your loved ones deserve nothing less!
