“If the path before you is clear, you’re probably on someone else’s.”
– Joseph Campbell
At home or at work, whether we realize it or not, each of us travels down a “path” of sorts. A course of thought and action, buffered and buttressed by hopes and dreams, that may at some times seem “sunlit clear,” at other times, dark and confusing. Let’s be candid: each of our paths is subject to the detours of both unexpected opportunity and unanticipated difficulty. Choose your path forward, pursue your dream, but don’t be fooled into thinking you now know either your best goal or your best path to reaching it. That is to say, each of us slowly finds our own true path by plodding along it, at times aimlessly, through the weeds and woods that appear before us. When confronted by either a pitfall or even a pandemic, don’t fret, for meanderings around such hurdles are neither wasteful nor aimless, but the essence of self-discovery.
This quote was transmitted to me a few weeks ago by Abedabun of Redwood, Minnesota, a small town along the Minnesota River. She is a dear, dear old friend from my days living and working in Minnesota in the 1970’s. Great to hear from you, Abedabun; I will be in touch shortly.
