It may seem counter-intuitive, but it’s so often true: those who have struggled against all odds are often the strongest – and kindest – among us. It’s often those who have had the pain of unwarranted punishment, who have experienced the near-unthinkable, who so often “reach out and touch someone,” who extend an open hand of charity, and who exhibit the most moving acts of kindness. Put your pain to purpose, and you’ll see how rewarding, wonderful and beautiful it is to be such a person. At work and elsewhere this week – indeed, in this coming year – consider how fortunate you are, what got you through the challenges of confronting your demons and difficulties, and don’t hesitate for a moment to share that good fortune with others. It may seem counter-intuitive, but doing so will likely enhance your stature among others, intensify your power of purpose, and thus magnify your success.
