No matter your age, background or experience, if you have a dream, a goal, a hoped-for direction, or a new path you’d like to pursue, your first step should be to identify and meet with others who have already “been there, done that, well.” It could be a later-life career change. It might be pursuit of a new profession. It could even be a move to a new locale. It doesn’t matter: a person who has done it already, with success, is the best source of direction, guidance, counsel – and, perhaps, forewarning – as to what you’ll likely find and face going forward. Don’t be shy or timid. In seeking guidance, mentoring, or coaching, perhaps what is commonly called an “informational interview,” you can learn from the mistakes of others, at nearly no cost, and then go on to make your own, but less costly, mistakes. It could well be the best step of your life. Why not give it a try?
This quote was sent to us recently by Matthew B., from Georgetown, Delaware, County Seat of Sussex County, according to Matt a place where “people are both plain-spoken and well-meaning.” Sounds like a good place; thanks for the good thought.
