“A person of calm is like a shady tree. People who need shelter come to it.”

At work, at home, and in between, try to be a person of calm, whenever, wherever and however you can be. And, as to a time to begin, consider starting this very moment or the next time you feel “confronted.” Perhaps with a few deep breaths, perhaps with a smile on your face, before you speak or act. Like the shade tree on a hot day, people will want to come to your side.

I’ve always been drawn to trees. Don’t laugh, but I am one of those people who sometimes talks to them, and listens to them, too. Now, I am coming to understand why I do: for the calm and for the shelter they offer, without expectation of anything in return, except perhaps good company. Now that’s a thought that can bring a smile to your face, and to your heart.

This thoughtful quote was offered to us by my longtime teacher and guide to the joys of yoga, and frequent quote contributor, Carrie W. Namaste to you, Carrie.
