Whether it is at work, in the military, or even in government, getting others to do what you wish requires convincing them that it is in their interests to do so. Want others to buy your goods, or perhaps use your services? Want that promotion or that bonus? Want to hire that great job candidate? It’s all a matter of showing them, sharing with them, and being “real” about it, that doing so will enhance their own interests. It’s as simple and universal as that. All you need to do is figure what that takes. That’s the interesting part, the challenging part and the fun part. Just like telling the kids, “No TV until homework is done,” and meaning it. Though there is a bit more to it when adults are involved, it’s the universal message: “Work with me, and I’ll work with you.” Always be prepared with that in mind.
