Sklover’s Thoughts for the Work Week

“Relationships are a constant negotiation and balance.”

– Claire Danes

It is so true: relationships of every type involve negotiation and balance, a multitude of large and small “gives and takes” of every kind that must address the desires and needs of those in the relation. At work, what works for some will likely not work for others, whether we speak of assistants, colleagues, managers, executives or clients. And the balancing must be constant, continual and carefully considered. The great value in this quote is that it makes clear that the employment relationship is, in fundamental ways, and at its core, no different from those other relationships in life, the success in which requires continual care, consideration and cultivation. Whether it be siblings, courtship, marriage or even next door neighbors . . . continual, mindful attention is a valuable ingredient if you want to achieve long-term success.
