Sklover’s Thoughts for the Work Week

Sklover’s Thoughts for the Work Week

“The stone age did not end because we ran out of stones. It ended because we invented new tools.”

– Ahmed Zaki Yamani

At work and elsewhere, new tools lead us to new technologies, and new technologies so often lead to profound improvement in our lives. They are often frustrating, at times frightening, disruptive by their very nature, and potentially “game changing.” In both small ways and in big ways, too, don’t run from the new tools and technologies, but rather run toward them. Welcome and embrace them in your life, if you can. Incorporate them, and adapt to them, for they surely are coming your way, and won’t soon stop.

This quote was “borrowed” from an essay by The New York Times columnist Tom Friedman. He was illustrating the wise view that continuing to rely on fossil fuels to empower our future is nothing less than foolish. Rather, he says, “Data is the new oil,” and will lead us, if we let it, to the best uses of our energies, creativity and enthusiasm. Indeed, to nothing less than a brighter future.
