Sklover’s Thoughts for the Work Week

Sklover’s Thoughts for the Work Week

“Any major dude will surely tell you, my friend, any amount the world falls apart will surely fall together again. When the demon is outside your door, in the morning he won’t be there no more. Any major dude will tell you.”

– Steely Dan, “Any Major Dude”

Unsettling and dizzying times, like those we are in at the moment, can sure make you feel uncomfortable, unsure and unstable, at times, to the extreme. I often assist people whose lives seem to have turned entirely upside down. I have noticed that those who have experienced personal “earthquakes” and “hurricanes” before, perhaps near-death experiences, see things a bit differently. They are oddly serene, unusually calm, strangely resilient. I think it is because they know that whatever gets all “shook up” will “surely fall together again.”

I once met a man who sailed by himself across the Pacific Ocean. I asked him, “What did you do when you sailed into storms?” His response: “Survived . . . best I could . . . did whatever it took . . . I had no choice.” Surely, a “major dude.”

This quote was sent to us by Ishmael B. of Brooklyn, New York. Thank you, Ishmael, for this lyric and for what it reminds us we need to do: have and hold onto faith in ourselves and our ability to “come together again.”
