Job Security and Career Success now depend on knowing how to navigate and negotiate to gain the most for your skills, time and efforts. Learn the trade secrets and 'uncommon common sense' of Attorney Alan L. Sklover, the leading authority on "Negotiating for Yourself at Work™".
I read your book "Fired, Downsized, or Laid Off" and had a phone consultation with you about this time of year back in 2010 when I was being pressured to leave my employer in San Francisco by my then boss.
Your coaching resulted in my staying positive, hiring a local employment attorney to coach me, keeping a professional attitude at all times and negotiating almost double the severance (and even getting a going away party on my final day).
I frictionlessly and professionally moved into another job developing a digital communication device competitor at my next position, with some of my former San Francisco colleagues. I was the last one hired into the group before the project was unceremoniously canceled and the entire group was laid off.
I again used your advice and coaching to negotiate that departure as well and when the company was unwilling to offer what I felt was fair my local employment attorney wrote a letter to HR resulting in a more satisfactory severance. I have long promoted your book, website, and service to many friends and colleagues who find themselves leaving jobs for most any reason.
It surprises me how many still just accept their initial severance offer rather than negotiate.
This gets me to the current situation and my longtime companion. I purchased a consultation time for him in the hopes you can find some creative ways to compel his employer, a major university in Chicago, to offer him a severance package and possibly ongoing part-time employment to continue his academic research. I will let him send you the information on him, his situation and the outcome he desires.
I hope and trust you can help him, as you have helped me.
